“Pullman Riga Old Town” and “ART ROOM” present a lecture “Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele: the Art of Provocation”

Gustav Klimt “The Kiss” (1908)

On March 4, at 19:00, in the hotel “Pullman Riga Old Town” a lecture dedicated to the life and work of two great artists – Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele – will be held.

The subject of the lecture will be the Austrian art of the first half of the 20th century. Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele are classics of Viennese art nouveau. Their outrageous, bold and ambiguous works have influenced the subsequent development of the world of art.

During the lecture, the attendees will learn about the life of the Viennese elite at the beginning of the 20th century, about the strategies of artistic self-promotion, private Viennese clubs, and hidden erotic symbols hidden in the clothes and interiors of the Viennese art nouveau.

The subject of discussion will also be the creativity of the young “academic” Klimt, the popular paintings of the “golden” period and the peculiarities of the artist’s later landscapes.

Egon Schiele was Klimt’s favourite student, one of the most gifted graphic artists in history, whose works have changed peoples attitude towards the human body. Schiele lived for only 28 years, but during his short life he has left a large number of self-portraits for the history of art.

The lecturer of the evening will be the Viennese art historian Daria Sabitova, Master of Art History. Creator of the Viennese art club ART SALON VIENNA.
