The “ART ROOM lectures” project presents a lecture “The Riga Collection of Works by Nicholas Roerich: History, Fate, Context”.
For over half a century, the Latvian National Museum of Art has preserved a unique collection of paintings by the outstanding artist and thinker Nicholas Roerich (Nikolai Rerikh) (1874-1947). Latvia holds an important place in his fate. The collection is a gift from the artist to the land of his ancestors and was sent to Riga from India in the 1930s. The lecture examines the history of the collection, analyses the artistic features and the spiritual component of the master’s paintings, as well as the significance of the Riga collection in his work.
The lecture will be conducted by the art historian, the keeper of the collection of foreign paintings of the Latvian National Museum of Art, a world-class expert – Ksenija Rudzīte.
The event took place on January 21, 2019. The hotel “Pullman Riga Old Town” was chosen as the venue for the lecture.
