A lecture dedicated to the works of Yayoi Kusama and Daniel Buren will be held in the Pullman Hotel in Riga

On July 9, at 19:00, the hotel “Pullman Riga Old Town” in collaboration with the project “Art Room Lectory” will hold a lecture on two amazing artists – Yayoi Kusama and Daniel Buren.

The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has struggled with mental disorders throughout her life, and in the art world has always been an outsider. International recognition came only when she was eighty years old, and after that has Kusama became one of the most sought-after and expensive living artists. In the works of the avant-garde queen, one can observe endlessly repeated minimalistic psychedelic motifs that cover all the available space of the artwork.

The French conceptual artist Daniel Burren has created his own unique aesthetic form, with which he has successfully worked for half a century. Burren views the artwork as inseparable from the visual context, one of the peculiarities of his works is to use the space as part of the work itself, literally forcing the viewer’s eye to look at the work and how it transforms the space where the artwork is located.

Both artists constantly re-use the same pattern, re-interpreting it in each new work.

Lecturer of the evening: Natalia Bataraga (Moscow) – art historian, creator of the project All About Art, fashion historian, stylist.
